Pet Travel Guide
Thinking of flying with pets? Know your options before you fly. Travelling abroad to EU countries and Northern Ireland with your pet needs an Animal Health Certificate (AHC). However, you can still use a pet passport issued by EU countries and Northern Ireland, if you are travelling to an EU country.
Pet travel guide to travel to the EU or Northern Ireland
- A microchip,
- A valid rabies vaccination
- If your pet passport is issued in Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales), you can no longer travel with your pet to EU countries or Northern Ireland. An Animal Health Certificate (AHC) signed by an ‘official veterinarian’ is needed if you are travelling from Great Britain to any EU country or Northern Ireland. However, pet passports issued in EU countries and Northern Ireland are still valid.
- One can use a pet passport issued in Great Britain if they are travelling within England, Scotland, and Wales.
- A tapeworm treatment within 5 days in advance, but no less than 2 hours before you arrive in countries like Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Norway, and Malta.
- If you’re travelling to a non-EU country, you’ll need to get an Export Health Certificate (EHC) for your pet.
